Youth for Peace and Re-integration Programme (YPR)
Nagrik Aawaz initiated a network called "Sahakarya Shantiko" that comprises of organisations committed and working at the grassroot level for peace and conflict transformation in Nepal since 2003 A.D. The opportunities to continue and expand peace building work in Nepal has increase with the success of People's Movement II of April 2006. This projects build on the work initiated in the "Sahakarya Shantiko". Members of "Sahakarya Shantiko" have identified the possibilities of work through YPR projects to support the re-integration of conflict induced internally displaced person (IDP's) and conflict affected communities. This project focusses in the pshyco-social approach to support those who are adversely affected by conflict to overcome their trauma. The project will support the healing and re-integration process for individuals and groups through community outreachd. The project is being conducted in partnership with four district partners namely- Nepal Mahila Samuhik Sewa Manch in Dang, WAM in Surkhet, FatIma Foundation in Banke and Tharu Mahila Uthan Kendra in Bardiya and has been supported by The Ford Foundation for two years from 2008 to 2010 A.D.
Objectives
To increase communities capacity of resilience to conflict.
To influence favourable policies and support system for the comflict affected communities.
To improve access and use of pshycological support and referral system.
Outcomes so far
Four Peace ambassadors have been recruited and placed in four district.
Four Peace centers have been established in all four districts.
District orientation workshop has been conducted in each four districts.
Questionaire for baseline survey have been developed and distributed to district partners.
Ten youths volunteer in each district were selected for the programme.
International Peace Day was celebrated on 21st September 2008 in four district.
